Obituary

Carolyn Conyers, formerly of San Antonio, passed peacefully from this earth on January 12, 2023 at the age of 83.

Carolyn was born on June 9, 1939 in San Antonio and raised by her parents on the city’s south side, surrounded by family. Her grandparents lived next door, and many aunts, uncles and cousins were close neighbors.

Carolyn had an artist’s spirit, which first showed itself in her study of piano beginning as a child. After graduating from Harlandale High School, she went on to earn bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music composition from the University of Texas and the University of North Texas. While she did not make a career in music, she continued composing throughout her life. She was also a gifted craft artist who loved working with fabrics, and made everything from dolls to clothing to quilted wall hangings. Attending creative retreats at Laity Lodge in the Hill Country was special to her.

Carolyn worked as an executive assistant and in development, and was professionally happiest when she worked at nonprofits and mission-driven organizations. When a cause caught her attention, she was quick to make a donation or write a passionate letter, and she always had strong beliefs about what was right.

Family and friends will remember Carolyn for her creative spirit, her faith, and her loyal support. She could always be counted on to help with a project, whether as complicated as planning a wedding or as simple as putting together a puzzle. She loved watching her grandchildren pursue their passions, and she took an interest in any subject they cared about. She followed her own convictions, and she supported her loved ones in being who they truly were.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, Ruth and Marvin Crabtree, an infant sister, and many aunts, uncles and cousins. She is survived by her daughter, Anna Kuhn and son-in-law Kurt Kuhn of Austin, grandchildren Eli Kuhn and Lucy Kuhn, cousins, and friends.
